On reaching eighty,
It’s rare that a man feels feisty.
Of man’s time on planet earth
There is a significant dearth.
Man is no longer haughty,
Is barely if ever naughty.
Other matters occupy the mind.
He has the time to be more kind.
As realisation dawns
That much remains unfinished,
His time on earth is very much diminished.
Man should not look back
With anger, rancour, or regret
At life’s events
And God’s time that was wasted.
Get off your back.
Give it a lash.
There is much yet to be done
In that time that remains.
It’s time to get going.
In the process
There could be much enjoyment and fun
By helping and encouraging
The beautiful uncorrupted young.
